I reviewed Gileah’s solo record, The Golden Planes, awhile back and I loved it. In fact it was one of my top albums of 2006. I expect this one will make my 2007 list as well.
From the opening piano chords on The Devil you will be hooked. The melody and production on this track are mesmerizing. The vocals; dreamy.
Gileah Taylor’s voice has a wonderful quality that is comforting and gutsy at the same time.
The more guitar driven, The Lazarus, is also a really catchy song. I hear radio friendly on this one.
The Satellite is also quite radio friendly. Very nice melody and her voice sounds fantastic.
The Shadow has a fun infectious beat that will have you moving on your feet or in your seat. Great guitar line too.
The songs are full sounding with lots of things going on at once but it’s cohesive, not messy. They are haunting and richly layered and just lovely. I love this record.
Sidenote: notice all the songs start with the word, “the”.
