Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I’m going to try not to be too biased here. But I’ll admit Barbara has been a friend of mine for a long time. She and her husband Chadly used to be our next-door neighbors. Chadly played with my pal, Anne Deming, etc. So there’s a bit of history between all of us. We’ve all been waiting for Barbara to be ready to release a record and we’re so happy she’s done so!

That said, I adore Barbara and this record is a good indication of her talent as a singer and songwriter.

“Watering the Dead” is a very haunting song that really stuck with me from the first listen.

“Wisconsin” is a cute song about, of course, cheese n’ things. Any song that mentions the Cheese Chalet is a good one. Yes, there is such a place. It’s glorious.

“Does It Always Have to be About You?” is a great song about self-discovery. I think we could all learn a thing ‘er two.

“Obsession” is another haunting one, it’s really gorgeous.

This is very bluesy and while I am generally not a fan of the genre, I am really enjoying this record. If you do like blues, alt.country and the like you really must pick it up, you’ll love it.

PS it’s fun to hear her dog, Whoopie Jill on the track, “Bad Dog” since I used to hear her barking in the yard a few years ago.
