Album Review: Red Rows/Wine Flows by Amanda Mabro

These two Amanda Mabro CDs arrived together, so I guess I’ll review them that way…. While they’re similar (and I guess I am not sure why they aren’t just one) Red Rows seems to grab me more. Or at least it has more songs that stand out to me.

She opens with Parlour. It’s a fun, cabaret-ish sound and very cool. It’s also a little naughty: “Take me to the parlour, make me a woman again…” !

Nuit Blanche is a fun, swingy, loungy song that makes me want a gimlet. Nice piano here too.

Old-Fashioned Morphine is super cool. Very cabaret, slinky sexy. Her voice sounds fantastic on this one.

Bouquet of Love gets stuck in my head all the time. Especially at 3am. “Oh yeah.”

I love Better Day too, lots of ‘ba-da-da dup-bups’ which is always fun to sing along with.

Track Listing

Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

This EP opens with an almost Motown-y sound, a little Amy Winhouse-y. It’s not really my thing. But it’s done very well.

My favorite song on Wine Flows is probably King of the Castle. It’s got nice piano and the melody in the chorus is addictive. Her voice at times reminds me of Nedelle. Especially on this song. This song caught my attention several times.

These are both really good EPs, I’d highly recommend them both, but if you can only get one, I prefer Red Rows.

Track Listing

1. Believe or Be Left
2. King of the Castle
3. Don’t It Feel Good
4. For Owen
5. Mr. Ocean
6. The Parade
