I hate proprietary things. But isn’t Sony one of the biggest abusers of this? I have had Sony stuff in the past and always loved it, but it never plays nice with anything else. That’s great if they’ve gotten away from that.

I didn’t know about the “1984” thing. That’s very wrong.

Open Source, of course, is the way to go!! 🙂

And don’t forget the infamous “1984” case of this past summer, when Amazon discovered they didn’t actually have the rights to sell that book and went in the night and removed it from the Kindles of all the people who had bought it, without warning. They claim they’ll never do something like that again, but who’s to say?

I would check out the Sony e-reader instead, which accepts files in a range of formats (.pdf etc.) and doesn’t limit what its users can read on it. I’m sure this year will see the introduction of other open-source e-readers in the marketplace that likewise have wifi capability.
