Album Name: Ging Ging
Artist: Purr Machine
Year/Label: 1999 / Re Constriction
Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
What is a purr machine I wonder? A cat perhaps. Purr Machine singer Betsy Martin has a more feral than kittenish approach on this album though. She used to sing with the aptly named Caterwaul. Purr Machine resemble a more organic Garbage or Curve without an icequeen for a vocalist. Martin is in fine voice on
“Ging Ging”; growling on the highlight “Speak Clearly” and displaying a softer side on the meditative “Regarding Mary”.
This high-octane debut sees Purr Machine making refreshingly cliché free modern rock.
