Album Name: It’s a Movie
Artist: Shane Nicholson
Year/Label:2004 / Virt Records
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Australian Shane Nicholson is the first male to be signed by Collected Sounds favorite Indie Record Label, Virt Records. So it’s fitting that he also be the first solo male to be reviewed on this site. I’ve been meaning to put together a boy’s section on the site and this was my kick in the butt to get it rolling.
This is a very nice recording. Shane has a gorgeous voice and the songs suit him well. There’s nothing flashy here, just pretty pop songs.
I know his music reminds me of another musician but I can’t place it. Or perhaps it’s just that these songs are so comfortable they feel like home. The CD was great upon first listen, but as I listen more it has really grown on me even more. It’s a staple.
Though I like every track, ones that stand out to me are “Best Day of the Year”, “Keep it Together” and “Designed to Fade” is my favorite today. That could change since they really are all good songs.
“Nice to Be Here” has radio hit written all over it. Really all the songs are radio friendly. I just hope they make it there so others can experience the joy of Shane’s music. Oh and it doesn’t hurt that he’s a real Hottie 😉
