Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Since Nicki Jaine’s classy debut album “Of Pidgeons and Other Curiosities” she’s joined forces with Sam Rosenthal as Revue Noir. This is a live set of her and others songs.

Her distinctive voice shines in this stripped-down setting. The style is still cabaret-ish and the ambience timeless.

Her own “Sound of Girls” is teasingly sweet and played beautifully.

“Sometimes Sunshine” a Revue Noir song sounds lovely. Jaine’s modern Marlene tones and her piano suit it fine.

Her cover of the old Marlene’s calling card from the blue angel is fetchingly antique.

The Brecht/Weill number “Alabama Song” sounds just fine even if too many others have sung it.

“Bei Mir bist du Shön” has been sung by the Andrew Sisters and it gets a vivacious reading here.

This is a very fine little album.
