Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Ion is the new project by Duncan Patterson who has been with Anathema and Antimatter. It’s a collection of celestial-voiced music, a number of female singers including Emily Saaen help out.

The title song is somber and features a spoken vocal. It means mother, protect us.

“O Efeito do Verao” has a lovely lead vocal set to a gentle folk backing. A male voice offers a nice counterpoint as the drama unfolds.

“Anathema Marantha” is s slightly folk tinged track driven by the sound of a drum and a spoken lead. Not sure what the words mean but they sound dramatic.

“Goodbye Johnny dear” sounds austere yet achingly lovely.

This album offers a rare beauty and I cannot recommend it enough.
