Chiara Angelicola aka Bird Call has done an ep of covers and it works fine for her. The opening version of Kate Bush’s The Man with Child in His Eyes doesn’t stray far from the original but for the Björky vocals. It’s enough to make it work.
Nick Cave’s Into My Arms is done in a restrained style and again it’s her unique vocals that sets it apart from the original. Here she sounds like Björk arm-wrestling Karin Dreijer Andersson.
The version of Fleetwood Mac’s Little Lies is an intriguing revisit to the radio-friendly classic. Angelicola slants the song a little and finds an angle that’s all her own.
The remix that closes the ep takes it further in an intriguing fashion.
This all makes me wonder what her own songs sound like. This is cool but I want to hear her do original material next.
