Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

This is an interesting record. It’s really pretty unique, or at least it’s different from much of what I listen to regularly. I actually don’t even know how to classify it. The only phrase I can think to describe it is ‘world music’ but that’s not completely accurate either. Maybe I just use that when something sounds foreign to me. There is a Celtic sound to the music but also a folky rock sound as well.

Mazz’ voice is really interesting. It’s deep, soulful and powerful with a touch of smoke. But she can hit the high notes with precision.

She also plays the violin and while one tends to think of the violin as either a classical instrument or a bluegrass one (well, fiddle) this music is really neither. But it sounds fantastic.

Brad Hammond plays guitar and the two mesh really well together.

If you’re looking for something really cool and out of the ordinary, give Brazz Tree a listen.
