Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Marissa Nadler follows two albums of amazingly spectral folk with an equally stunning third album. Her dewy voice and haunted moods are intact and she’s written some lovely songs.

“Dying Breed” uses her weightless vocal and a slowly undulating melody.

“Thinking of you” sounds romantic but carries a sting in its tail. She sings of being a lady to someone’s lord and then growing bored.

“Bird on your grave” is one of many songs that mention death. “I’ll be the bird on your grave” she sings to a haunting backdrop.

An impossibly beautiful reworking of Leonard Cohen’s “Famous Blue Raincoat” attests to her unique talent.

Her new album is a treasure.
