Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Seana Carmody used to sing in Swirlies and Syrup USA. Now she’s made a solo record after a long absence.

The short, jagged pop songs on “Struts and Shocks” are effectively sugarcoated by Carmody’s lovely voice.

The perfect pop of “Mighty Bull” is well served by the sharp guitars.

“Tailgate” has honeyed vocals and a hummable tune. Musically it nods towards the Breeders tough sound.

“I Can Troll” is as simple as a nursery rhyme and just as sweet. Carmody’s voice takes on a resemblance to Kim Deal here.

“Deidre” is a song with a faint psychedelic flavour to it.

It is a brief, but likable album.
