Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Daughter Darling is Natalie Walker and Travis and Steve Fogelman. Their gorgeous music might be described as trip-hop but it also allows for other influences.

“Broken Bridge” is impossibly sad and haunting. Walker’s voice is at its most beautiful here.

“Let Me Speak” begins with powerful beats and continues with Walker’s evocative voice taking centre stage. This song echoes Portishead in its bluesy noir way.

“Mermaid” is spacey and intriguing. It uses sea noises to evoke a strong mood.

“Things Untold” is where folk and electronica meet. The lyric is barbed and interesting.

The dark “Voodoo Games” describes a lover that won’t let go. The song is frightening and Walker’s vocal aptly haunted.

A cover of Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind” closes the album on a great note.

It’s a perfect debut and a record well worth investigating.
