Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
OK these guys had me at Cool Package. This CD came to me in a lovely printed envelope that upon opening, I realized matched the CD. It came with a printed note (personalized, unless they only sent their CDs to people named Amy). It was all very lovely. They get an A+++ for packaging.
Sometimes this is can be a bad indication of what is inside. Sometimes an artist or band will make up for their musical talent by being super showy, hoping you won’t notice that they suck. This is most certainly not the case here.
Luckily the music is just as creative, and impressive as the packaging is. Santa Dog are Rowena Dugdale (vocals/guitar), Rob Williams (lead guitar), Jojo Harper (bass) and Martin Maidment (drums). They are from Bristol, England and you can certainly hear the Brit Pop in them. This is a good thing, indeed.
They also have a bit of a hard edge but remain quite melodic.
Though there is only four songs here (why are the great CDs always short?) they are all quality songs. I am interested to see a full-length release from this promising band.
