Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Cynthia Basinet’s an actress and as evidenced by this record a terrific singer as well.

Her collection is very varied in nature and takes in several styles; opener “Just” is a blue aching ballad with heavy reverb.

Jazz standard ”Someone to Watch Over Me” follows that and is beautifully sung.

The seasonal “Santa Baby” is sung sexily and has been mistaken for a recording by Marilyn Monroe. She never sang the song back then, that was Eartha Kitt. The less we say of Madonna’s miserable version the better it is. Here ms. Basinet gives it her all alongside a nice little male backing part.

“Water’s Edge” is coolly sung torch, style that she excels at.

“Yellow Taxi”(no, not the Joni song) is a neat little dance number.

Basinet’s album is very diverse but it all holds together thanks to her vocal talent.
