Record label Marketing people….please take notice….

I almost didn’t review this CD at all because it made me so angry. Every time I put it into my computer to listen to it I would get this splash screen with the words…”tell me who you are and why you’re here…” Indeed! Why the hell do they feel they need to put this on a CD? I put in the CD because I wanted to listen to the music. Not watch videos, or interviews or any other junk. If you want that on a CD make it a choice or put it on another “bonus disc”.

I’m not saying sometimes I don’t enjoy watching those things. If I really like the artist, I like that stuff; I just don’t want it to be shoved at me. I want the choice. I don’t want to have to scroll through 3 pages of credits in order to get to the music. Please, please leave this extra stuff off or make it a choice.
OK rant mode off….

So I’ve already come into this CD with a bad taste in my mouth. But I really like the single, “Everywhere”, and I’m impressed with the fact that Michelle Branch is so young and so NOT Britney Spears that I gave her a chance.

Turns out that the rest of the CD is pretty good. She has a pleasant voice and her songwriting is catchy. She’s good at “the pop song”. Nothing intricate, nothing that hasn’t been done before, but not bad.

Songs that stood out for me are: “All You Wanted” and “Here with Me” which I think is also being played on the radio. “Drop in the Ocean” is probably the most different song on the record and it’s a good one. She makes use of some funky keyboards and drums and her voice really soars. This is the highlight of the album for me.

If you like “Everywhere” you’ll probably like the rest of the CD.
