Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I reviewed Crystal Brandt’s previous CD, “Bessie’s Last Stand” almost exactly one year ago to date on this site, and I really liked it. This recording has less of a country feel than “Bessie’s…” did, I think. If anything, “Voter” is a bit bluesier.

Brandt’s voice is still strong and comforting and the melodies are lovely with a folky feel. I love that she uses piano as well as guitar as the main instrument on these songs. The piano is simple yet perfect on “Bear Mountain”.

Her lyrics are intelligently written yet sometimes silly as in “Canada, Kennedy”…unless there’s a deeper meaning I’m too dense to get, which is always possible.

If you liked Crystal Brandt’s previous releases I’m betting you will like this one as well.
