Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Melody Gardot had an accident that had a big impact on her life, she was recommended to try music therapy and eventually she made this album.
It was originally released independently and soon Universal picked it up. The music is intimate and perhaps not wholly original jazzy pop. She has the voice and talent to stand out amongst the Norah wannabes though.
The title song is a latenite jazz done smoothly but compellingly.
All that I Need is Love is a sweet and playfyl song, Gardot scats beautifully on it.
Sweet Memory is almost folksy and Gardot’s gorgeous vocals are at their best.
Love Me Like a River Does is one of the best songs here, the instrumentation supple and the melody memorable.
Gardot has definitely got what it takes to enthrall audiences for years to come, and this is a good start.
