Album Name: Queen of Pain
Artist: Devil Doll
Year/Label: 2002 / Lucky Bluebird Records
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Colleen Duffy a.k.a Devil Doll is a unique artist…and I don’t use that in the way that someone uses that term when they don’t want to say something unkind. She really is unique. And great! Though her sound sometimes is reminiscent of Joan Jett and sometimes Jill Tracy, her sound is all her own.
She mixes piano with saxophone and strong percussion to create songs that have a cocktail loungy sound. (especially on Bourbon in Your Eyes)
This CD is not for children, however (sweeeeet!). In her note she says she is “all about putting sex back into rock and roll” and has great use of the effenheimer on track one, St. Christopher.
Driven to Distraction sounds like a combination of Madness and No Doubt.
If you put Joan Jett, Jill Tracy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, No Doubt, Madness and your old cocktail lounge music in a blender, you’d have Devil Doll. This is a great, fun CD!

Comment: LOVE the CD….BUT I just caught her live last night at the Bamboo Room in Florida. Zow, the band was tight, the attitude was so right, the Devil Doll had her full strut on display. This band is not to be missed should they come anywhere near your area. Worhty of a road trip. Can’t wait for the arrival of Eve.

Comment: Best CD I bought in a decade. Once in a lifetime experience, truly original sound/concept executed flawlessly with impecable style. Another one of these and I’m ready to worship the ground she walks on… One very good reason to visit states, I might add.

It mixes everthing that I love, swing, blues, Zazz and a little rock. He makes me want to be like her. Its awesome. YOU MUST spend atleast just a little bit of change on this amazing album, you wont regret it. I know I haven’t taken it out of my car CD changer in 5 months. ENJOY!

Comment: Instantly became my favorite CD. Devil Doll is an intoxicating blend of tough-as-nails girl punk and sultry, sexy, jazzy, late at night lounge music. Colleen Duffy is an amazing vocalist who could sing the phone book and make it suductive. Devil Doll will be in my hometown (Detroit) this Saturday night and I will be in first row. BUY THIS CD!

This Cd has a song for every mood and feeling!! Anyone and everyone who has lived at least a little should be able to identify with at least a few songs. She will make you addicted like a drug, and you’ll want to keep coming back for more! If ever you were looking for a wonderful female artist with alot offeeling and honesty – this would be the Cd! With the class of Patsy Cline and the harsh truth of Johnny Rotten! As well as the style and heart of Billy Holiday. She is a singer you will never forgett!!!!!

Love the CD. My friend Laura and I are trying to find concert dates for Devil Doll. Is she playing anywhere?
