My intention was to recommend a podcast every Saturday, but my city has been a little (a lot) unsettled this past week and my mind and energy has been elsewhere.
I had a recommended podcast picked out, but after the last few says I decided I wanted to share something a little more healing, a little more uplifting. So today I bring you, A Kind World.
This podcast is wonderful for a lot of reasons. It’s stories about people being kind to one another, but each episode is also pretty short (under 10 minutes mostly), so you don’t need to carve out an hour or more to listen. I like to download a bunch of these and then intersperse them in my playlist so I get a little taste of kindness in between the other stuff I listen to (which let’s face it, can be brutal at times). It’s done with the host narrating, and interspersed with sound bites from the people in the story.
The hosts are Andrea Asuaje and Yasmin Amer and they’re both just lovely.
A few recent episodes are about the pandemic, but now that there’s all this other unrest I imagine the upcoming episodes may center around that.
Some topics:
A woman whose husband drowned in the ocean and the strangers around her that got her through it.
A little girl who wrote a letter to her postal carrier just to tell him she appreciated him (and his reaction).
A couple who were homeless and rebuilt their lives and community with tiny houses.
And so many more wonderful stories. This is one of my favorites: [A Woman Retraces Her Grandmother’s Story Of Survival And Escape From The Nazis]
