Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

Weather Pending is the first band that contacted me via Twitter! **

The band is from San Francisco. Lead singer is Janie Oliver, Rob Cross on the bass (as well as producer). rounding out with Brian Bloi (guitar), and guest drummers, Max MacVeety and Derek G Taylor. They have a nice cohesive sound.

The music is melodic and easy, almost summery sounding. It’s a combination of lounge, trip hop, reggae and pop. It’s mellow, melodic smooth and a tad jazzy.

At times it’s vocally reminiscent of an old favorite of mine, Nedelle. Especially on Midlands, which is probably my favorite track. I also like Perfect Weather a lot.

Janie Oliver’s voice is comfortable and sweet without being sugary. I’d call this Sunday morning listening.

Their press says, RIYL: The Bird and The Bee, Dido, Zero 7, Morcheeba, Feist, Sade, Corinne Bailey Rae. I guess I can see all of that. They’re kind of a mixture of those styles. Though I don’t think they’re as trip-hoppy as they are the other styles. They’re not as edgy as other trip hop bands you may be thinking of. But they’re very cool. I likey.

**Don’t anyone else get any funny ideas, I check my Twitter account about once a month. I just haven’t gotten the hang of it. If someone can explain to me what the point is, I’d love to hear it. I see how others use it, but I just don’t see how it works for me. If you are following me, and you’re seeing updates, it’s because I update Facebook and it transfers over. At least it’s supposed to. Wait, I take this back, I did win tickets to a show once using Twitter. But I guess it’s just too much trouble for me to keep up with it. Maybe this is another post entirely. Forgive me, I’m getting old.
