Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
I wasn’t sure what to make of this. The photo of her on the cover looks like Ani DiFranco to me. So I was expecting folk. But then I put it on and it’s jazzy, and swingy.
Opener, Cuz I Feel is a toe-tapper that showcases her voice; which is skilled. I can’t say its all that distinctive from other vocals in the genre. But that’s OK because it matches the songs well.
I always feel like an imposter when I try to review jazz. This is the kind of music that I always think is for someone older than me. But now that I’m almost middle-aged, I guess all this time I just meant more sophisticated than me. Which, let’s be honest, is not hard to be.
She creates really interesting melodies. Sometimes they’re comfortable and sometimes they go where you don’t expect, which it always good.
Just Stay strays into funk with that wocka guitar.
Miss Ohri Regrets is kinda fun. I like the melody here.
I like this, it’s just not something I would listen to all that much on my own unless I was in the right mood. But she’s very talented.
