Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

The CD begins with a song called “Tricks” in which the first phrase sounds like a line from an Ani DiFranco song “The sky is so gray it plays tricks with the eye…” that for a second I thought it would be an Ani cover, but then it grows into a very nice original song.

Francesca Lee’s voice is a bit like Ani’s but softer and with not so much angst. The music is more than girl and guitar, there is that, but there’s a full band sound. The style is either soft rock or alternative folk or somewhere in between.

Lee is a talented and interesting songwriter. The songs are very comfortable sounding, as is her voice.

Though thankfully, she’s not an Ani DiFranco clone, fans of Ani and other funky folksters should check out Francesca Lee.

Stand Out songs: “I Never” has a nice funky feel. “Goodbye” is beautiful and her voice really shines here. Mystical Fact has a cool guitar intro and is a nice song all around.
