Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Wow. Consider my mind blown. Clara Engel’s ep is the stuff dreams are made of. Or is that nightmares?

The beautiful “Charcoal Morning” is a deep-voiced elegy that’s just stunning. She’s a poet which this tracks lyrics attest to. It’s a little like the Doors, mystical and atmospheric.

“All the Cherries” is absolutely lovely if scary. Engel’s singing is husky and moving.

“All the cherries bleed for you”

…she sings. The song’s a bit jazzy in a nice way.

“Absinthe Drinking Man” closes the ep. It’s a stunning song with a bit of a Patti Smith feel to it.

Engel’s talent is real and she’s only just begun. Here’s to many more records like this one. < Posted on November 25, 2005
