Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
While this is a “cover album”, it’s really unique. These songs are all done quite differently from the originals. If you weren’t paying attention you wouldn’t even realize you were listening to Beatles’ songs.
“Eight Days a Week” actually becomes a waltz. But all the songs still have that jazzy feel for which her other albums are known.
I thought I had least a passing familiarity with all the Beatles’ songs, but I don’t recognize “What You’re Doing” at all. It’s really a cool song.
This just shows what great songs these are at the root. That they can be done in different ways, with differing styles and sounds and still shine. It helps that they’re in the capable hands of Lisa Lauren.
