Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

Wow, was this ever a nice surprise! Nettwerk Records had contacted me to review a different CD then added that they had a new artist’s CD that they would throw in also. It was Toronto-based Martina Sorbara. If you haven’t heard of her yet, you will. She is amazing!

This is one talented woman. She plays piano, guitar, and percussion in addition to having written all the songs on the CD.

Her voice is reminiscent of Jewel at times with its clear, strong lilting quality. But she really is unique.

“Bonnie & Clyde” is an especially lovely song. It’s got a nice low heart thumping drum beat (ala “Possession”).

“All in Good time” is a beautiful but sad tune, which showcases her voice as well as her songwriting skills.

You’ve got to love a song like this (“Call Wolf”)

It’s like I was stuck in this
Amusement park
And I am less amused all the time

To get a taste of Martina’s jazzy/bluesy side check out “Eggs Over Easy” and “Better Man”. She’s got that growl down perfectly.

“Cherry Rd.” is one of those songs I call “friendly”… Even though you know it’s not possible, you swear you know it the first time you listen.

The whole CD is quite friendly actually. I know I’m in love with it.
