]]>Gregory Douglass, singer-songwriter and all around great guy is doing a series of House Concerts every Monday night and they’re webcast! It’s one great way to get folks interested in the new record he’s putting out. His last release Battler was largely financed by fans and friends and he’s going that route once again on his new one.
Having had the pleasure of hosting Gregory numerous times in my home for house concerts I can attest that he puts on a wonderful show full of funny stories and beautiful emotional songs.
So head on over to Justin TV tonight and watch. It’s on 9pm Eastern Time. (8 Central (US, please don’t make me do math to figure out when you in the UK can see it, but I believe it’s 6 hours later). [GO HERE] to participate.
Here’s one from last week (I’m having trouble getting this to embed, so if you can’t see it go to [here] and you can see it there.
UPDATE: I’m on right now, listening and this is so darn cool. People are requesting songs and he’s playing them along with Mo on cello. I was able to give a donation and say hi an chat and all. You guys have got to tune in next week!!!

Some of you may remember the name Cat Kinsey (she now goes by her full name, Catlain). She is a wonderful artist that we’ve covered here on Collected Sounds. We even hosting a house concert with her in 2003. She’s also a fabulous person. We had a fantastic time that weekend. We sort of lost touch over the last 6 years, but luckily she still had my email address because I got an email from some friends of hers with some startling news.
on Saturday April 4th her house burned down. She lost almost everything except her life and her dog. Her dog actually saved her life (who’s a good doggie?…you’re a good doggie!)
Read the story [here]
There’s a second, follow up story [here]
Her fabulous friends have set up a blog for her and a donation site on PayPal. since she lost nearly everything, it’s money she needs now to get back on her feet.
Here’s the [Blog]
and the [PayPal site]
So if you can help out at all that would be greatly appreciated. If you live in the Seattle area maybe you can donate some time?
Maybe also send some good zen her way
We’re thinking of you Catlain!!
xoxo

]]>Sarah McLachlan will be co-headlining Ships and Dip V, the third annual music cruise hosted by headliners Barenaked Ladies, featuring Great Big Sea, The Weakerthans, Gaelic Storm, Sloan and more than a dozen other artists and comedians. The cruise will set sail from Miami, FL on February 1, 2009, on the Norwegian Jewel, with stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island Great Stirrup Cay, returning on February 6, 2009.
It’s not very often you get the opportunity to see this legendary singer/ songwriter perform solo in an intimate venue, seating around 800. While on the cruise, you’ll also have the opportunity to get up-close and personal with more artists while enjoying all night jam sessions, headline performances, acoustic sets and impromptu performances all over the ship. In addition to all that musical talent, you’ll laugh out loud to Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald from the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. If you’re STILL looking for things to do on this action packed cruise, there are plenty of wild and wacky theme nights like the 1988 Prom Formal Night, and the annual naked photo on the deck. You never know what’s going to happen on this cruise!
Cabins start at $849 per person

Sklyer is a
four year old child recently diagnosed with brain stem cancer called Diffuse Pontine Glioma. Recently, his parents decided to turn to alternative medicine to relieve the swelling in Skyler’s brain. Within a few days of receiving treatment, he’s been able to start to
move parts of his body again and is smiling and out of pain. His parents need help to continue to pursue this treatment because it is not covered by insurance.
Beth recently recorded 4 beautiful lullabies for Skyler, which she will send anyone who donates $50.00 or more. If you decide to send money, please note (benefit CD) on the check so that you will receive the CD. Please also note if you’d like mp3 versions sent to your e-mail account instead; this saves money, trees, etc.
A fund has been set up for Skyler and donations can be made to:
