A while ago I got a request to cover VH-1s “We are the 80s� campaign. Well, I am certainly an 80s gal and was glad to help out in any way I could.
Here’s what they’re doing. VH-1 in league with Sony BMG and Legacy Recordings is releasing special CDs from some of your favorite 80s pop stars. These CDs contain the greatest hits, if you will, from a variety of artists. The ones currently covered are: Scandal, Rick Springfield, The Bangles, Loverboy, Edie Money, Bow Wow Wow, and Flock of Seagulls.
It looks like some to come are: Romantics and Men at Work but Amazon has a release date of 2025 so my guess is they’ve not finished those yet.
When I agreed to cover it, I knew they’d send me a CD or two and I’m happy to say I did not get Loverboy or Flock of Seagulls. I was actually hoping for Bow Wow Wow because as much as I loved their one big hit, I don’t believe I ever knew any of their other songs and was sort of interested.
What I got was Rick Springfield and the Bangles. I was a casual fan of both of them in the 80s. To be honest, my 80s experience was more alternative. The Cure, The Smiths, REM, and even Wham! But this stuff was fun too.
