Album Name: A Different View
Artist: Jennifer Taylor
Year/Label: 2003 / Independent
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Judging by the cover (didn’t your mother ever tell you not to do that?) I was expecting crunchy, political, folk, guitar music (not that there’s anything wrong with that, at all). What I got was an almost country-sounding voice and piano! There’s guitar too, but this is a much more full sound than I was expecting. It doesn’t appear that Taylor plays an instrument on here but her website shows her with a guitar. She did co-write all the songs.
The songs cover a bit of ground, but many are about just plodding through life. Feeling lost, losing love, getting fed up with it all, etc. You’d think that would be depressing, but it’s not. There are also some uplifting songs such as “Even If” where she sings,
Even if you were drowning
you’d still be holding me
you’d still be holding me
Above the water.
Nice pop songs with some thoughtful lyrics.
