Album Name: Edge of Reason
Artist: Stefanie Seskin
Year/Label: 2005 / Independent
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Stefanie Seskin has been the lead singer and songwriter for the rock/soul/pop band “blue number nine” since 1995.
I am not familiar with the bands music, but Seskin’s solo project also seems to fit the above description…yet I would add the word “funky”.
The music at its core is pretty rock oriented. But then you add the horns and ‘wakka-wakka’ bass lines and it shoots it straight to funky in my book.
Seskin’s voice is quite soulful and matches the music wonderfully. She can do the quirky syncopated stuff (Chill Now) as well as the rock ballad soaring thing (Estrangement).
“Jerking my Chains” is an all out party song. You have to dance when you hear this. Unfortunately I’m currently sitting at my desk at work.
This is a really fun CD if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary AAA contemporary stuff.
Stand out songs: “Your Own Road”, “Estrangement” and “Nothing to Say”
