Daniel Martin Moore decided to record a spiritual record with the aid of some simple instrumentation and he’s done a good job of it.
All Ye Tenderhearted opens the album on a hushed, yet urgent note.
O My soul is one of his own songs and it’s a comforting and persuasive tune. The slow tempo becomes restful rather than too inanimate.
The title song was penned by Jean Ritchie and has a reflective, almost Nick Drake-like sensitivity.
Moore’s vocal is a quiet and thoroughly magnetic presence.
Set Things Aright is one of Moore’s own songs, and it ends the album on a positive note.
He manages to sing about faith without being preachy, and that makes for an arresting magnetic album.
It’s well worth a spin.
