Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

Well, I’ve been a fan of Jennifer’s for a while so I was happy that she got signed to Bardic records. I’m hoping this will be the push she needs to get to the big time. She deserves it.

These songs are pure intelligent pop. The sound is melodic and catchy, the lyrics clever, touching, and at times very funny.

“Live” is the ultimate pop song. It makes me think of that Ally McBeal episode where she was told to pick a theme song to sing to herself when she felt down. This would be a perfect choice:

“…I’m gonna live with no regret
I’m gonna give all that I get
I’m gonna live as if the best is yet to happen…”

“Window” was inspired by an apartment Jennifer had in New York that had a huge window and she knew her neighbors could see her inside. But it takes on another meaning when you think about it as a metaphor for not letting people see anymore than you want them to.

The chorus on “Away” sounds like it belongs in another decade. The 70s to be exact. It has a certain groovy feel to it. This is a good thing.

Jennifer also has a knack for sad songs. Both “Make it Right” will break your heart and “Fragile” is a beautiful song about how we’ve all felt at one time or another.

The whimsical “High School Reunion” is one of my favorites. It’s hilarious and a little sad at the same time.

“If you wanted to prove you still had hair
I’m sorry I don’t care
Hope my ambivalence doesn’t disappoint you.”

It’s nostalgic 50s do-whop sound and Jennifer’s sweet vocals make this a fantastic bittersweet song.

Pop needs an intelligent witty icon and Jennifer Marks has what all takes to become a huge star.
