Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I was alerted to Rachel Loshak via a contact I have in Denmark of all places! Collected Sounds favorite and Danish artist, Marie Frank is doing a tour with Loshak in Denmark so it was through Frank’s people I came across her. I love little connections that turn out happily!

This is a very nice recording (and by the way, can really see these two women sharing a stage, they’re music is complimentary yet not too similar).

The music is pop, but I almost hate to say that because I don’t want you to think “Britney”, it’s not like that at all…at all. This is real pop, intelligent pop. Make you happy pop. The way it was intended.

Loshak is a bass player so I assumed that I’d be hearing bass-heavy songs but that’s not the case here. The instruments are all balanced nicely as are the vocals.

“Latin Rock III” is fun with sweet lyrics.

“When the Moon and the Sun” has a very cool dissonant sound and here we get to hear the bass loud and clear. Very cool song! Probably my favorite. Though “Never Look Back” is like this as well.

I also like “No Words” which is a beautiful ballad, and the opening track “Rain” it sets the stage for a lovely recording.

I only wish I could travel to Denmark to see Rachel Loshak live.

Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Rachel Loshak’s new album is very appealing. She mixes folk and pop in a great way.

The gently psychedelic “Never Look Back” is very catchy and has some quirky moments. Loshak’s sweet voice sounds brilliant here.

“The Dreamer” is s folk-inspired song that’s very sensitive. Loshak sings the words with great tenderness.

“Please don’t die tonight,
Give me back your life to live for”

she sings heartbreakingly.

“No Words” is a piano-based ballad with a lovely lead vocal. The song is worthy of Natalie Merchant.

“All Day Long” is wonderfully suggestive. The melody is simple, but the song runs deep.

“Mint” is an inspired record that should appeal to many.
