Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Joseph and Raven Hazelwood play an intriguing take on Americana on their debut album. They mix contemporary modes with old time instruments and wind up someplace new.
The Sanctified Town is a cabaret-ish song with a strange down-home feel. Raven Hazelwood makes a sassy blues mama and Joseph gives able support.
Indiana is a song that brings the ever-odd Tom Waits to mind as Joseph sings a haunted lead.
The traditional Mary Don’t You Weep gets a moving reading as both singers give it their all.
O Disgrace is a lengthy ode enlivened by the musical saw.
Ode Hazelwood’s debut is a great and invigorating record.
