Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
I reviewed Corrinne’s debut CD, in 2003 and I liked it very much.
It’s nice to see that Corrinne has created a nice follow up. These songs fall squarely into the AAA category. There’s nothing shocking or out of the ordinary here, not that there needs to be. But there are moments when it gets a little sleepy.
Track one is not one of those moments. “Little Superhero Girl” is very upbeat, well written and shows off May’s voice beautifully. I can imagine this on any adult alternative or pop radio station.
The more I listen, the more each song grows on me in it’s own way. “Safe in a Crazy World” is a very pretty love song. It sounds like it belongs in a film. It’s a positive love song, which you don’t see everyday. In fact all the songs are quite positive. Some even tend to get a little religious on us. But not too much so as to be distracting to those of us who shut down upon hearing religious material.
“Angel in Disguise” is quite catchy and couldn’t be more positive and uplifting. A very pretty song in word and sound.
If you like lite pop with strong vocals ala Sarah McLachlan, Vienna Teng, Vanessa Carlton and so on you’ll also really like Corrinne May, I’m pretty sure.
