Album Name: Time
Artist: Vanessa Florez
Year/Label: 2001 / Independent
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Vanessa Florez’ debut CD is a very nice recording.
She has a lovely, sultry voice and plays piano quite well. The music is rounded out with guitars, drums and other subtle instruments.
She’s been compared to Jewel and Sarah McLachlan (though both names spelled incorrectly on her website bio). I can see the Sarah link but not so much the Jewel. Her voice is strong and fluid and hits all the notes just right. But not in a Jewel-Country-ish way at all.
“Time” is a song about “living life where we are right now, in the moment, and making our mark and our changes for our everlasting soul” (in Vanessa’s own words). It’s a very pretty song and is her favorite.
Her lyrics are well thought out and well written.
If you like slow, pretty ballads and strong vocals you ought to give Vanessa Florez a listen.
