Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

Julia Carroll has been described as “hard folk” and though I’ve never heard that term before, it seems to fit.

This is not what I would call a melodic CD. It’s a lot of harsh sounding guitar and vocals ala Ani DiFranco and her most intense. The first two songs sounded the same to me until I really paid attention to the lyrics. But if you like acoustic folk with an edge you will probably dig this CD quite a lot.

Julia Carroll is clearly a talented lyricist. She sings of friendships, self-esteem issues and of course, love. It’s a powerful collection of well-written, heartfelt songs.

Stand out songs: “Double Standard Drive”, “Addicted”.
