Album Name: Day for Night
Artist: Nell Bryden
Year/Label: 2003 / 157 Records
Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Nell Bryden’s debut comes on like it means business. From the opener “Daylight” it’s obvious she has a distinctive voice and tunes to match.
“Red” is an atmospheric rocker with poetic lyrics. Its intensity is matched by Bryden’s strong vocal.
“Meridian” is a ballad with a pleasant country tinge. Bryden handles that style well also.
“Jetblack Sunrise” borrows the words from Walt Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass” and adds a strong melody.
“White Rose” is a great song that features a powerful guitar line and a feisty lead vocal.
“View of the East River from Atlantic Avenue” is as evocative as the title implies.
“Day for Night” is a wonderful debut.
