New podcast coming summer 2021
Those of you who are here for the music, I apologize. This podcast has nothing to do with music (though it does have a kick-ass theme song).
Due to a strange experience that was had in my former house (not even by me), I started looking into a notorious gangster from the 1920s and 30s called Kid Cann. After reading a bunch of old newspaper articles I decided that it was too interesting not to share with you all.
So launching (hopefully) in June of this year (2021) I will be launching Volsteadland. You probably aren’t going to see much here for a while as all my time and brain resources are going there right now. I look forward to introducing you to my co-host Heather too.
So come over there and join us. This is gonna be fun!!

My Empire Of Sound – The Confession Of The Machines – Preview

The Scandinavian electro-pop duo My Empire Of Sound are very excited to announce the release of their debut album The Confession Of The Machines via Warsaw Recordings on December 16.
Since uploading their first songs online they have created quite a buzz in the blog universe. Musicohm.com wrote “Like a Swedish-Danish She & Him…the pair complement one another adroitly, ascending to join this year’s best and brightest as a result.”
Their debut single Early Morning (A New Beginning) was the most popular new track on Indierockcafe.com with over ten thousand streams and it also went to number two in the Scandinavian Chart Base Top 100 and they were voted Best New Scandinavian Act by the same site.
My Empire Of Sound are Swede John Alexander Ericson (Alberta Cross, The Northern Territories, Stjarna) and Sidsel Marie Søholm from Denmark. They are signed to Misty Music Publishing Sweden (ABBAS FORMER PUBLISHER).
The two met in a bar in berlin only a year ago, “Sidsel was one of the performers that night and her voice blew me away” says John Alexander. “We started chatting and decided, on the spot, to start a band together” Two weeks later they started recording in Alex´s studio in Berlin. John Alexander´s background in electronica shines through but Sidsel definitely puts her own stamp on the songs. There´s obviously a very scandinavian feel to the songs, very pop, but at the same time slightly melancholic. “I listen to everything from fellow Swedes Fever Ray and Lykke Li to older things like Propaganda and early Kraftwerk, so I guess it´s all in there somewhere”, says songwriter John Alexander.
The Confession Of The Machines is available on iTunes, Spotify and all other major digital stores on December 16.

It’s Not Me, It’s You is both a continuation of the preoccupations of Alright, Still, Lily’s critically acclaimed debut and a stiletto-heeled leap forward. The forensic, affecting, often humorous examinations of relationships and sexual politics are still there, but bigger themes are also tackled. BLENDER aptly summed it up as “part God, part country and all middle finger.” Working in a tiny rented house in England’s Cotswolds and at Eagle Rock Studios in Los Angeles, Allen wrote and recorded the album’s 12 songs with producer Greg Kurstin (the bird and the bee), who collaborated with her on three tracks for Alright, Still –Everything’s Just Wonderful, Alfie and Not Big.
Lily Allen created her MySpace Music page in November 2005, where she used the site to post demos and self-produced mixtapes to attract thousands of listeners from around the world. As she started gaining tens of thousands of MySpace friends, the media took notice of her growing popularity on the site and in March 2006 received her first major mainstream media coverage. Lily Allen released her first single Smile in 2006, which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in July 2006. In December 2006, her debut album Alright, Still was voted one of the best albums of the year by Mixmag. In 2007, it was nominated for the award of Best British Album at the BRIT Awards and Lily was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. The album was nominated for a 2008 Grammy Award in the category of “Best Alternative Music Album”. Alright, Still has sold over 2,600,000 copies worldwide. I am so very excited for the season premier of Dexter this evening I can barely stand it.
I’ve just learned that Brandi Shearer’s song Lullabies will be in tonight’s episode on Showtime. This is a fantastic show and a great boon for Brandi!
Apparently its included twice – in one of the scenes a cast member is actually singing the lyrics.
I reviewed her record, [Close to Dark] in 2007 and I really liked it.

Minneapolis, MN – June 17, 2008 – ‘Hope, Volume One’, a compilation CD, with proceeds benefiting Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE) is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The release features an exclusive mix of Curtis Peoples’ Wake Up, previously unreleased songs by Kevin Herchen and Max Schnitzer, and selections from Charlotte Martin, Lisa Loeb, Kevin Max, Ken Andrews, Joanne Cash, and others.
Five online auctions are planned to coincide with the release of the CD. 100% of the auction proceeds will be donated SAVE. Items include an autographed guitar from Trisha Yearwood, a gift pack from Tegan and Sara, and an autographed CD from Matt White. Auction links will be posted on visionary-concepts.net, the morning of June 24, 2008.
The mission of Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE) is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce stigma, and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide. Daniel Reidenberg, Executive Director of SAVE, is humbled by the number of musicians and labels willing to partner on this project. “To have names like we do on ‘Hope, Volume One’ is incredible to me,” Reidenberg said. “These artists are willing to stand up and fight the stigma associated with mental illnesses and suicide, and to tell the world through music ‘we are going to do something positive about this’ – and that is the goal of this CD.”
