I recommend this, I have this EP too and it’s really great!!
“Allison’s Invention is a music project by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Allison Tartalia. Tartalia’s quirky and eclectic songs, performed on piano, ukulele and kalimba, have made her a popular performer at New York venues like Mercury Lounge, the Living Room and Joe’s Pub. The Emmy-nominated composer, who has shared a stage with the likes of Lelia Broussard, Petra Haden, Rachael Sage and Fred Armisen, will tour the Midwest this April and will perform select dates in the Northeast as part of the Joni Mitchell’s Blue: A 40th Anniversary Celebration.”

Sea Of Bees is set to release her sophomore album, Orangefarben, on May 1st on Team Love Records in the U.S.
To share the news, Julie Ann Bee is offering up as a free download. “Live At The Hangar – 5.3.11” captures an intimate night in Sacramento, CA when Jules and her pals celebrated the success of Songs For The Ravens with a special, invite-only live performance in the same studio where she crafted that breakthrough album.
In each song, you can hear the kind of musical growth that only comes from playing them night after night in front of audiences around the world. The EP closes with the haunting, yet rarely performed live, “It Won’t Be Long” which features Jules playing one of Neil Young’s old antique pump organs that she used on the studio version.

The song, In Your Doldrums, comes off their debut LP, Teeth, which is out now via Crossbill Records.
Teeth sways from somber drones of distortion and lonely French horn to manic layers of trumpet, guitar fuzz, and cymbal crashes, its resonance lies in the way these contrasts conjure the idiosyncratic personal details and experiences, both immense and minute, of everyday life. They tell stories of regret and renewal – of characters “doing their dishes in the dark” even while “trying to make the days feel long” – offsetting minor notes with major keys and tempering squall with calm, just as DM Stith’s striking cover image evokes both lightness and dissonance, growth and decay. Or, as “The Middle Distance” says, in a line that could be a statement of purpose for the record, “This is for the ones who still have joy inside their hearts – may you always find it where you don’t have to look.” Live, the band brings a kinship to the stage that results in close harmonies, rich instrumentation and sonic exploration that leaves attendees in joyful awe!

From the Press Release:
In a small isolated California high desert town, with the keys to a lovely church next door, free to go in whenever, Saint Timothy’s emerged. Written from a very solitary place like a private journal, these songs are as sparse as a simple prayer. Concepts of grief, searching and starting over, then longing for redemption are told with an old pipe organ and piano.
Saint Timothy’s was mastered by Kramer of Low and Galaxie 500 fame and will be officially released on January 10th, 2012.

They describe the song thusly:
“The song is called ‘Isles’ and I suppose it is just a collection of notes and words that fell out of us when whilst practicing in Gateshead. Like lots of places we’ve travelled to, there a strange disconnect between the people and their environment. Despite the simplification of bleak streets and wild youth, the lyrics can maybe convey the yearning subject matter more accurately.”

Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
This is a good one for me to post today since it’s my birthday, and I really like this one! It’s super cool.
Lonely Drifter Karen is Tanja Frinta, Marc Melia Sobrevias and Giorgio Menossi. I’m not quite sure how to classify this. It’s really kinda…I know I can’t say unique because something can’t be sort of unique it either is or it isn’t. And while I know I’ve not heard anything exactly like it before, maybe you have. They remind me of a few other artists depending on the song.
This consists of:
Female lead, sweet lilting voice.
Background swoopy vocals, psychedelic-ish. Includes whistling.
Catchy songwriting that creates amazing ear worms.
Some songs are poppy, some torchy, some dirgy.
Something’s Scorching is definitely a stand out. It’s spooky and swampy and cool.
From start to finish this one’s great. It is an exceptional album and one that’s soaring to the top of my list.

Press Release:
Sheila Nicholls’ first new release in 7 years, Songs from the Bardo, is an interesting combination of genres. Shifting easily from acoustic singer-songwriter to studio trip hop grooves.
“Songs from the Bardo is an exploration of what interlaces the personal with the universal. What we experience individually, that ultimately makes us the same.”
Since moving to the US from England, Sheila has performed with NY-based group Splendid Frock, recorded 3 solo albums and started her own label, Essex Girl Records.
“After releasing two albums with Hollywood Records, I decided to lay low for a minute. I built a studio, bought equipment, and taught myself ProTools. I really wanted to expand my abilities and have more creative independence. Consequently this record took a while because I did it myself, with some help from friends. Oh and I also had a baby.”
Available now, ‘Songs from the Bardo’ delivers an LP experience in which Sheila co-produced as well as wrote the entire album.

Got some new (free) music for you from a band called Panama Gold
[Cheer Up Shayla]
(click to listen, right click and choose Save Link As… to download it.)
Here’s their bio:
Panama Gold is a rock n’ roll quartet based in Seattle, WA*. Their collective sound celebrates the highs and lows of 60’s garage rock and late 70’s post-punk with the vocal delivery and soul of early Rolling Stones, Doors and Stax recordings. “We fancy ourselves as being a band that goes outside the constraints of formulaic songwriting; but at the same time, we want your grandma to like us, so we adhere to certain pop song structures,” states lead vocalist Damien Goyenechea. Panama Gold’s high energy sentiment, songwriting and stage show are equally rooted in the moment. And what a moment it’s been: In less than a year, Panama Gold went from an idea of songwriter Goyenechea, to forming their own label Madcap Records, releasing several singles, an eponymously named EP and playing dozens of well-received shows at Northwest venues such as The Sunset Tavern, High Dive, Slims, and Hell’s Kitchen. Panama Gold has begun to cement their notoriety around the Seattle music scene; if the past is any indication, the months to follow will be equally fleeting. An LP is slated for release in June 2010 preceding a West Coast tour.

Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
The name of the CD had me worried, Twilight and Blues. While I love twilight (no, not that ‘Twilight’-no, the time of day) I do not like blues. However, I’m happy to say this record is actually jazz. It’s that grown up sophisticated style that makes me feel like I should have a martini in my hand and be talking about an art showing I just saw.
While I am nowhere near that mature, I can pretend, and this is just the album to help me do that.
It’s instrumental, piano based. I’m actually glad there are no vocals, that’s one less thing the jazz people can yell at me about in my critique. She’s a fantastic piano player and there are a good deal of horns as well.
There are a couple of songs that have ‘blues’ in the title and they’re probably among my favorites!
The songs are all wonderful and I wouldn’t change a thing. Great record!

Some free music from Trentalange by way of our own Anna Maria
[Download Holiday EP] Free until January 1, 2010.
Barbara Trentalange is a veteran musician who began expressing herself musically before she could read. Her talent has carried her around the world and allowed her to play with amazing performers like Crooked Fingers, Calexico, Micah P. Hinson, Head Like A Kite, Sushirobo and Mark Pickerel (formerly of Screaming Trees.) Trentalanges songs are vibrant powerful portraits of complex and compelling characters.
After fronting Seattle band Spyglass for five years and touring with Crooked Fingers in support of Dignity and Shame, Trentalange released two full length recordings on Coco Tauro Records, Photo Album of Complex Relationships (2006) and Awakening Level One (2008). The critics response to both recordings was overwhelmingly positive. Trentalanges haunting voice and hypnotic beats grabbed the attention of the music editors at MTV, VH1, FUEL, and the Oxygen channel, where her music is in regular rotation on a wide variety of dramatic series.
Trentalanges music is a balance between raw power and vulnerability. Her new ep B-Sides (2009), is a 5-song collection of unreleased material from 2004-2009. Even though these songs didn’t make the cut for either full-length album, they are equal in strength to the material that did.
Trentalange composed, performed and recorded the songs on B-Sides. With producer Martin Feveyear (Jupiter Studios), producer Ryan Hadlock (Bear Creek Studios) drummers Mark Pickerel, Faith Stankevich, Dov Friedman, Barry Shaw and other guest musicians Dave Head Like A Kite Einmo, and Tim Sale, Trentalange has created a solid repertoire of songs.
With a lifetime of passion and dedication her skill and creativity are astounding. Her music defies description; and cannot easily be put into any one genre. Trentalanges songs are so saturated with emotion and style new sonic discoveries will be made with each listen.
Trentalange is offering a FREE download of B-Sides off Bandcamp.com until January 1, 2010. Download a little holiday treasure for yourself.

Vovete is a duo, Rui Guerreiro and Danny Da Silva from as they put it, “New York and other places.”
They’ve got an album coming out in the fall of 2009, “made with nothing but love, dreams and late nights.”
They’ve given me permission to post a couple songs here. I hope you like them:
Shades and Shadows is a chorus of voices, a layered prayer, incantation, or hope for guidance
House Of Dreams is a lonely island built for two.

[Vovette Official] (not much there yet)
Thanks to Dan for asking about this. I sent a note to the band and they wrote me back right away!
The album took a little longer to finish (they’re mixing it right now) but they offerred up this news tid-bit:
the album is called PROVIDENCE and will be out this spring (available on digital music retailers and in indie shops). We will be releasing an MP3 again soon, in addition to the ones we sent out already. we will be updating both our myspace and website soon with all the upcoming info including a show in February in New York at The Delancey as part of Small Beast, date tbd
So that’s great news!
